To increase followers? Boost engagement? Increase website traffic? Build a stronger community presence?
Maybe you have something more clearly defined, like “grow your LinkedIn follower count by 25% over the first six months of 2027 while increasing engagement rate.”
Whether your goals are specific and measurable (which we recommend), or more general, a social media content calendar is the roadmap your institution needs to achieve them.
A strategic, comprehensive calendar can help your FI move from reactive posting to intentional storytelling.
1. Enhanced Planning and Content Synchronization. A comprehensive plan makes it easier to execute an annual content strategy. A detailed social media content calendar helps align your marketing campaigns and business goals with your posting priorities. By understanding what’s coming and when, you’ll be better prepared to write copy, take photos, edit videos and get compliance approval.
2. Greater Consistency and More Flexibility. Whether you use Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram or other platforms, a well-conceived calendar helps you streamline your content planning and keep your posts consistent and on brand. It also makes repurposing content across platforms easier.
3. Greater Team Unity. A content calendar gives your team a shared roadmap of what’s being posted and when. When everyone’s on the same page, they’re likely to be more engaged and willing to share content with their networks.
4. More Balance. You can plan your posting strategy to cover all areas of your content pillars (more on this in a moment). Have a big offer coming? Start building the hype!
Content pillars give your calendar structure and help ensure every post has a purpose, as you define it.
Here are 7 content pillars we use that might work for your FI:
1. Product/Service Promotional. Posts that support specific offerings, campaigns or business goals at your institution (e.g., promoting a HELOC special).
2. Community Events & Employee Relations. People-first content that highlights your institution’s community involvement, team culture and local relationships to humanize your brand (e.g., celebrating an employee's milestone work anniversary).
3. Events. Time-relevant posts tied to FI events, sponsorships, webinars, branch activities or local happenings that should be planned early to account for photos, tagging and approvals (e.g., inviting first-time homebuyers to a seminar at one of your branches).
4. Holidays. Seasonal or observance-based content that keeps your calendar timely, relevant and connected to what consumers are already thinking about (e.g., a happy holidays post).
5. Education. Helpful financial tips, fraud prevention information and product guidance that position your FI as a trusted resource and thought leader (e.g., 4 back-to-school savings tips).
6. Entertainment. Light, engaging and brand-appropriate content that encourages interaction and shows personality (e.g., a day in the life of a commercial lender).
7. Other. Flexible space for timely opportunities, hiring initiatives, unexpected moments, consumer questions, trending topics, etc. (e.g., we're hiring post).
Plan with purpose and start leveraging the power of your social community!
